what is a Business Analyst ?
What are the Roles and responsibilities of BA ?
What should a good BA possess?

So here is the answer to it with refernce to an IT Business Analyst or Tecchnical Business Analyst.
Q. What is a Business Analyst?
A.   Business Analyst is an individual who acts as a spock between the internal and external entities during the product design and deployment cycle.
A business analyst (BA) is someone who analyzes an organization or business domain (real or hypothetical) and documents its business or processes or systems, assessing the business model or its integration with technology.

Q. What are the roles and responsibilities of a Business Analyst?
A.   Roles and responsibilities of a business analyst can differ from type of IT industry one works in below is a generic skills required,
  •   Communication - As being a spock one needs to be excellent in communication skills.
  •   Requirement Gathering - As an analyst one must be able to convert the client requirements into a easy and understandable format so both the stakeholders and technical team can grasp their necessity from it.
  •   Scoping - Scoping of a product cycle might differ as it needs to be done by the assistance from various internal stakeholders involved in the development of a product, also known as defining the project plan. i.e. Development team, Testing team, Implementation Team & Support and Maintenance Team.
  •   Solution Analysis - Solution Analysis is a skills that is one of the primary requirement as this helps to overcome the challenges that we face in a day to day product cycle post implementation or during the development & implementation phase. This would be done with the assistance of Testing and Support & Maintenance team.
  •   Documentation - This is one of the primary skill required for the business analyst where one needs to design BRS which is approved by client / stakeholder, FRS for the understanding of a specific funtion in product for development & testing team, SRS initially designed by product manager but in certain scenarios a BA needs to design this which has information such as UML diagrams, User Stories, Test Cases, Wireframes, Product timeline and delivery plan & Stakeholder approval.
